That Other More Accurate Calendar
Happy New Year!
It's that crazy lunar calendar again. Just another excuse to do all kinds of wacky superstitious things.
Apparently, the moon tells me that I was really born on April 13th (or, more accurately, the 13th day of the 4th lunar month).
When I was a kid, I used to think some things were just were universal truths... facts set in stone... like the calendar, daylight savings and the whole time zone thing. It blew my mind when I found out that all of this stuff was man-made and decided on by government officials. Why the heck doesn't Arizona observe daylight savings?! Freaks.
I also felt betrayed when I found out that grammar rules were made up as well. MLA is a style? And here I thought it was a cardinal sin to use "and" at the beginning of a sentence. I think all of my English tests should be considered invalid due to the fact that my teachers misrepresented the truth. Yes, conformity is essential for effective communication, but getting penalized for using "who" instead of "whom" is like getting arrested by a rent-a-cop security guard for jay-walking... a little excessive to say the least.
Anyways, I guess I'm not starting the new year off with anything different. Still weird. Still rambling. Still pointless.
If the entry had a point, I think it would be... the real universal truth is that anything is true as long as you can convince someone else it is. Try it this year!
